Muscle Maintenance After 50

Muscle Maintenance After 50

Over 50 and wondering why building muscle becomes a Herculean task as we age?

I was talking to one of the guys in my practice and he shared his struggles with muscle gain, and it dawned on us that after a certain age, it's not as easy as it used to be. This led us to a deeper discussion about the role of testosterone and other hormones in our overall health and fitness.

The turning point for me was when I began experimenting with a balance testosterone product. It was almost like a eureka moment when I found myself effortlessly lifting heavier dumbbells.

And it wasn't just me; others who tried the product, both men and women, experienced similar gains. This was even more noticeable when many of us shifted to home workouts where we noticed we needed heavier weights in order to stay on top of our now strengthening bodies.

But why was this? What was causing the the issues with muscle development in the first place?

Testosterone, More Than Just a Libido Booster

A common misconception about testosterone is that it solely boosts libido. While that's one part of it, its impact on muscle development is also important to note. This hormone is key for maintaining motivation and drive, something many of us look for as we age.

But testosterone can fall out of balance and lead you to feeling out of whack AND reduce your ability to strengthen your muscles.

Keep in mind, balancing hormones isn't just a women's issue; it's equally important for men. Excess estrogen, for instance, can lead to symptoms like gynecomastia (the common phrase you’ve probably heard is “man boobs”) and emotional fluctuations in men, while women might experience heavier painful periods and weight gain. Our Balanced DIM product is designed to tackle these challenges (learn more here).

One of the most significant health risks we face today comes from xenoestrogens, which mimic estrogen and can increase the risk of conditions like breast cancer. These are prevalent in non-organic foods, cosmetics, and even the plastic bottles we drink from.

At the end of the day, all of the above and so much more is covered in today’s podcast episode, where we’re diving into weight gain during the holiday season, breaking that cycle, and healthy habits you can put into place today to maintain muscle mass (including supporting your hormones).
